Description

Shopper in salmon skin – a beautiful and practical bag for a busy everyday life.

The bag is designed by Fosaa Design from the Faroe Islands.

It is beautiful and simple, but with enough room for everything every woman simply must bring along when she goes out.

It has a couple of fine extra compartments, which close with a zip.

A small “credit card pocket” has been made inside the bag, which can be closed with a zip.

The place where you can keep your small secrets, what needs to be looked after extra well or simply be easy and quick to find.

On the outside of the front of the bag a practical vertical pocket has been made, which closes with a zip.

There you can put the things you need to get hold of quickly – keys, phone or wallet – and lock them in with a rustic zip.

The shopper is closed with a good, steel-glossy zip, so you can make sure no uninvited fingers get down into your bag.

A little practical information about the bag:

Materials:

  • The front is sewn in black leather combined with beautiful grey salmon skin, which feels soft in a rough way.
  • Sides and back are made of lovely black leather.
  • The bottom is solid and sewn in black leather with shiny rivets, which protect the bag from dirt
  • The strap is made of sturdy, black leather, which is riveted on both the front and the back.
  • Inside it is lined with fine black canvas.

Colour:

Beautiful matt black leather, which looks great with the rough greyish salmon skin and glossy rustic zips.

The markings on the salmon skin can vary in different shades from greyish shades from dark to light grey.

Sizes and Dimensions:

Please note that all measurements are taken on the outside of the bag.

  • Height: 28 cm
  • Width: 42 cm
  • Depth: 13 cm

Handle

is made of black leather and measures 28 cm from the top of the handle to the edge of the bag.

Lining:

Inside, the bag is lined with black canvas.

The sides:

The sides are made of black leather, which matches the salmon skin beautifully.

There are 2 buttons on the side of the bag, which you can undo. That way the shopper becomes bigger and you can fit much more into it.

That’s how a real ladies’ bag should be, isn’t it?

The bottom:

The bottom is made of black skin and has 4 metal studs.

They protect the base of your shopper from the dirty ground, stones, gravel and other things that can ruin your shopper.

Inside pocket:

A small, fine inside pocket has been made, which closes with a zip.

There you can put credit cards, a face mask, lipstick or anything else you want to get hold of quickly.

Outer pocket:

There is a practical vertical and deep zip pocket on the front of the shopper, just right for sticking your hand in and putting the things you want to find quickly without rummaging through the whole bag.

Care of fish skin

Daily use and care:

  • Natural protection: The skin is finished from the tanning and has a natural resistance to everyday use.

  • Light wiping: Gently wipe over with a soft, lightly wrung-out cloth to remove dust and let the beautiful structure show.

  • Brush it lightly: If dust collects at the edges of the scales, you can run a soft, dry brush over the skin. Always remember to brush in with the direction of the scales.

  • Care: The fish leather can be refreshed with a good leather balm as needed.

Water and stains – When accidents happen:

  • Water and rain: If the product gets wet, simply shake off the excess water and let it dry slowly at room temperature.

  • Minor stains: Dab (do not rub) gently with a soft, firmly wrung-out cloth with lukewarm water.

What you should avoid

  • No direct heat: Never dry fish skin on a radiator, with a hair dryer or in direct sunlight. It dries out the leather, so it loses its suppleness.

  • Don’t pick at the structure of the skin: Do not bend or pick backwards at the individual scales – let them lie flat against the skin.

  • No strong chemicals: Never use stain remover, solvents or household soap.

  • Avoid tight plastic: Store the product in a fabric bag or leave it standing freely, so the material can breathe.

Bonus info about fish leather - What you didn't know you needed to know.

Do you want to know the story behind fish skin?

We have gathered a number of facts about the material, which will probably surprise some when you tell them about it.

History, Culture & Circular thinking

  • Pure by-catch from food culture: Fish skin is a 100% recycled by-product from the food industry (e.g. from salmon, cod and monkfish). Instead of letting the skin go to waste, it is transformed into an exclusive luxury leather.

  • From shoes to exclusive bags: Transforming fish skin into durable shoes and clothing is not a new invention at all. History shows that for decades – and most recently during World War II – the enormous strength of the skin has been used for strong everyday products.
  • 1-of-1 unique: Just like human fingerprints, no two fish skins are alike. The pattern and structure from the scales are shaped entirely naturally by nature itself, which gives your product a completely unique surface.

Properties that surprise:

  • 9 times stronger than cow leather: Although fish skin feels incredibly thin, supple and featherlight, it is up to 9 times stronger than ordinary cow leather of the same thickness. This is because the protein fibres in fish skin lie crossed over each other instead of parallel.

  • No, it doesn’t smell of fish at all. During the gentle tanning process all natural fat and protein is removed completely. What remains is a perfectly clean, odourless and strong leather that smells of classic quality craftsmanship.

  • Sustainable alternative: By choosing fish skin you support a use of raw materials that does not require extra agricultural land, feed or enormous amounts of water – the material is already there.

  • Beautiful surface structure: The tanning preserves the fine “pockets” and patterns from the scales, which gives the leather an incredibly beautiful, three-dimensional depth and a feel that has to be experienced with the hands.

How explorers avoided food waste on a voyage around the world

Food waste – a new word that entered our language in 2014. Since then it has become an everyday word. A Russian woman wondered why we threw out a lot of good food. The only thing wrong with the carrots, the yoghurt, the flour and the grains was that they had passed their sell-by date. […]
