Description
Ankle boot in black sealskin – a low, practical boot for the winter half of the year.
With an ankle boot in black sealskin you have a good boot for the winter half of the year.
With your feet in a short ankle boot in sealskin lined with lamb’s wool, it is much easier to head out the door on a cold and windy autumn day or winter morning.
A little practical information about the ankle boot:
Sizes:
The ankle boot will be back in stock in sizes 35 to 46 in the autumn.
Good to know about this ankle boot in black sealskin:
First of all:
It is water-repellent, so even if the sealskin gets wet after a walk in the forest, perhaps in the rain, you do not need to be afraid that it is ruined.
You just have to let them dry on a newspaper, and afterwards you can brush off dirt and grime either with your hands or with a brush.
Fit:
The fit is normal – i.e. choose the size you normally use in shoes/boots.
The boot is closed with a black lace, which matches the glossy black sealskin nicely.
This keeps the boot securely and neatly on your leg.
The black short ankle boot has an extra wide flap, which means it fits almost all kinds of legs.
The extra wide flap means the circumference of the boot can be adjusted to fit your leg without it gaping.
The boot has a wide, round toe.
It is not too pointed, so you do not feel that you cannot have your toes in the boot. On the other hand, it is not so wide and round that the boot looks clumsy.
Colours:
The short boot is sewn in 2 colours of sealskin:

Good to know about black sealskin:
There are no black, red, green or blue seals in the sea around Greenland.
By nature they are greyish with beautiful dark markings.
But in Greenland we love colours, and so we have found out how to dye sealskin in many beautiful colours.
Black is the most classic and elegant colour, which many people in Europe have fallen for as well.
The heel:
The heel is made of natural rubber
There is a coarse pattern on the bottom of the sole, to make sure you don’t suddenly slip when walking on damp ground.
The coarse rubber sole also makes the ankle boot perfect for a walk in the woods or when you are out walking the dog
See photo.
Lining:
The short ankle boot is lined with the loveliest, soft lamb’s wool. It is black and long-haired.
Even if the lining may feel a little thick at first, you do not need to choose a different boot size than you usually use.
In time you will tread the lining down, but it will still be warm and lie softly around your foot.
Designed by:
The short ankle boot is designed by Great Greenland, which has had it made in collaboration with skilled Portuguese shoemakers.

Care of sealskin
Daily use and care:
-
Let the skin breathe: Sealskin benefits from fresh air. You do not need to pack it away if you do not use your sealskin product every day.
-
When the skin gets crumpled: If your sealskin product has become a little flat or crumpled, you can make the hairs stand up nicely again by holding it over the steam from a pot of boiling water. (mind your fingers while steaming the skin)
-
Brush with the hair: You can gently brush the skin with a soft brush. Always remember to brush with the direction of the hair (from root to tip).
Water and stains – When accidents happen:
-
Wet sealskin: Caught in a rain shower? Don’t worry! Shake off the excess water and let the skin dry naturally at room temperature.
-
Minor stains: Gently wipe with a firmly wrung-out, soft cloth with lukewarm water. Always wipe with in the direction of the hair growth.
What you should avoid
-
No direct heat: Do not place sealskin on a radiator, close to a wood-burning stove or under a hairdryer. Direct heat dries out the leather back so it becomes stiff and brittle.
-
Avoid chemicals and soap: Never use stain remover, chemicals or household soap on the skin.
-
No airtight plastic: Do not store your sealskin in airtight plastic bags. Instead choose a cloth bag or put it in a dark place, so the skin can breathe.

Did you know this about sealskin?
We have collected some facts and secrets about sealskin that tell its fantastic story.
History, the Arctic & Sustainability
-
By-catch from the hunters: Sealskin is a 100% natural by-product of the kitchen. It comes from Greenlandic hunter families, where the meat is an important local food source, and where the proud tradition is that the whole animal is used.
-
Recognised sustainability: Both the EU and Greenpeace recognise Greenlandic seal hunting as fully sustainable. The hunt takes place in deep respect for the balance of nature and biodiversity, so the stock remains healthy and strong for future generations.
-
Climate-friendly by nature: Seals live freely in the clean Arctic sea. The material requires neither feed production, farmland nor artificial water supply, which makes it one of the world’s most nature-friendly raw materials.
-
Shaped by nature’s own fingerprint: No two seals have the same pattern or play of colour in their fur. Nature’s variations mean you have a product that is absolutely one of a kind – there is not another like it in the whole world.
Properties & Practical eye-openers
-
Water-repellent by nature: Made to withstand ice-cold seawater, sealskin has a fantastic surface where snow, sleet and water simply bead off instead of soaking through.
-
Generations-long durability: The leather under the fur is incredibly hard-wearing. If you take care of it and let it dry at room temperature (never on the radiator!), a sealskin product can easily be passed on to the next generation.
-
Adapts to you: The leather base is incredibly supple. Whether it is mittens or footwear, the skin quickly moulds itself to your hands or feet for the perfect, personal fit.
-
Love of easy care: Sealskin is surprisingly easy to keep. If it gets wet, simply let it dry at room temperature and brush it gently through with in the direction of the hair – and the fur gleams again.
