The Ice Crystal Princess – Vol II by Jørgen Simonsen
The man behind a beautiful haute couture collection in sealskin is called
Jørgen Simonsen and grew up in Struer.
Today he lives in Paris and can work magic with needle and thread.
Together with skilled seamstresses he has made a fabulously handsome collection in Greenlandic sealskin and tiny, fine Japanese beads.
He calls the collection “The Ice Crystal Princess – Vol II”.
With it he wants to show how broad a universe fashion is.
It is French haute couture in Greenlandic sealskin.
In short, it is impressive craftsmanship.
In tailoring language, fine clothes or handsome outfits are called “silhouettes”.
Jørgen Simonsen has created five silhouettes in which he handsomely shows how he has given sealskin a new and elegant expression.
It is impressive how Simonsen and the seamstresses have conjured the rather heavy material that sealskin is into airy, handsome creations. I would love to wear them next winter.
Around the world
His silhouettes and other beautiful creations have been shown around the world, from Struer to Nuuk and from Paris to Beijing, so the beautiful creations have been seen and admired by many people around the globe,
Before they set off on a journey around the world they were captured at the ice fjord by the supermodel Carmen Kass.
She is a skilled model who at the same time wears the clothes beautifully.
The five beautiful outfits were photographed around the Kangia ice fjord near Ilulissat.
It is a breathtakingly beautiful area, which has been placed on UNESCO’s World Heritage list.
The ice fjord is an impressive piece of nature. It fills everyone who hears the creaking and cracking of the ice with awe.
You feel small when you stand in the middle of great, ancient nature living its own life.
There in the middle of the ice, Carmen Kass stood straight and handsome in a corset dress and beautiful stilettos without batting an eyelid.
The rest of the team looked after their own skin in warm winter clothes and good footwear.
Can you imagine what it must be like to stand there in stilettos and a corset dress?
That takes class and work ethic.
Respect.
I love stilettos, but on the ice I clearly prefer my sealskin boots.
They give a safe and pleasant feeling of standing firm and getting about safely on both ice and snow.
The Ice Crystal Princess vol. II
As mentioned, Jørgen Simonsen calls his exhibition “The Ice Crystal Princess vol II”.
He wants to show how broad a universe fashion is.
It is an attempt to understand what happens when a designer is inspired.
- What does it do to the culture he is inspired by?
- What happens to the expressions that are born of the inspiration?
The outfits are inspired by both the Greenlandic national costume and by biker culture.
There is a trouser suit, a day suit, a coat, a long dress with a train and then the corset dress.
All of it sewn in the softest and glossiest sealskin.
It was great clothing sewn in the very finest tailoring manner in collaboration with Jørgen Simonsen in Paris, the Kittat sewing workshop in Nuuk, the national costume school in Sisimiut and seamstresses in Istanbul.
It was a lovely experience to see sustainable sealskin turned into genuine Paris models.
My very biggest and warmest compliment to the créateur Jørgen Simonsen and all the skilled seamstresses who have assisted him in the work on The Ice Crystal Princess vol. II
Together they have created both fashion and craft art in sealskin.
It is nothing less than haute couture in sealskin,
and it is a pleasure to look at and be inspired by.
