Description

Apron with seal print

Do you actually know what an apron is?

An apron is a garment worn over your clothes to protect them from getting dirty, for example when cooking, baking or working with ceramics and other creative things.

In the past it was part of women’s clothing and part of European fashion in the sixteenth century.

The seal-print apron is a fine way to protect your clothes when you work in the kitchen.

It looks good and is comfortable to wear.

It has a large, deep double pocket with room for what you need close at hand when you cook or bake bread.

Perhaps it will become your new kitchen helper.

The practical details about the seal-print apron:

The apron can be used by everyone regardless of body shape and is very comfortable to wear.

Size:

The apron is one size and unisex.

It can be adjusted at the waist with ties.

A little tip:

You can also fold the bib down and use the apron as an ordinary waiter’s apron.

Dimensions:

  • Length: 85 cm
  • Width: 70 cm
  • Neck strap – all the way around the neck: 48 cm
  • Ties: 90 cm long and 3 cm wide
  • Front pocket – divided in 2: 20 cm tall and 35 cm wide

An apron that can be adjusted in size with the ties.

Large double pocket:

The apron has a large two-part pocket where you can put all the necessary gear when you work in the kitchen

– from mobile phone, scissors, ladle and pot holders to anything else you want close at hand in the kitchen.

Washing instructions:

An apron must protect your clothes and can easily get dirty when you work in the kitchen.

The seal-print apron is sewn in a washable and robust material.

Wash at 30°.

Materials:

The apron is sewn in a heavy canvas of good quality, which can be washed in a washing machine.

When you feel this apron, you can tell that the fabric is thick and hard-wearing.

The pattern:

The apron is sewn with a lifelike ringed seal print.

That means the print resembles the skin of a ringed seal, known for its characteristic round rings scattered across the skin.

It is not real sealskin, but a detailed print that reproduces the structure, depth of colour and characteristic ringed seal shades of sealskin very faithfully, printed on a robust piece of canvas for a decorative and durable look.

Colours:

The colours of the apron run from a beige base into greyish shades.

The strap and ties are black and match the colours of the seal print well.

The design:

The apron is designed and made by Great Greenland.

They are the ones in contact with the Greenlandic hunters.

They were inspired by the markings of the ringed seal and have had a lifelike print made, so good that every product has its own unique print.

Care of canvas

Care of canvas:

  • Easy stain removal with cold water: If you get a small stain on your canvas, you can get a long way with a damp cloth, cold water and a little mild soap. Rub gently in circles – avoid hard brushes, so you protect the fabric’s surface.

  • Let it dry in the shade: If your canvas product has got wet, it must dry naturally at room temperature. Avoid direct, strong sunlight or radiator drying, as it can make the cotton fibres stiff.

  • Give it a shield of wax: Do you want to make your canvas extra water-repellent? You can easily give untreated canvas a thin layer of natural beeswax or textile waterproofing – then the water drops will bead straight off.

Bonus info about canvas - that you didn’t know you needed to know

Did you know this about canvas?

History, Culture & the Name

  • Named after hemp: The word canvas originally comes from the Latin word for hemp (cannabis). Originally, canvas was woven from strong hemp fibres, before cotton took over the stage.

  • Tested on the seven seas: For centuries canvas has been the sailmaker’s preferred material. It was the heavy canvas sails that drove the ships of history’s greatest explorers around the world – chosen because the material could withstand extreme storms and wear.

  • The artists’ preferred canvas: Besides being a robust utility material, it is exactly the same weave that the world’s greatest artists have painted their masterpieces on for centuries.

  • An ancient workers’ icon: From the gold diggers’ hard-wearing tent cloth in 1800s California to modern luxury bags – canvas has always been the symbol of incomparable strength and timeless design.

Fantastic properties

  • The secret lies in the weave: Canvas is known for its extreme durability. That is due to the special plain weave
(a completely tight over-under pattern), which makes the fabric almost indestructible and resistant to tears.

  • Only gets more beautiful with time: Unlike synthetic fabrics, heavy cotton canvas gains an incredibly beautiful, soft patina and an authentic “patinated” look over time, which tells the story of the adventures it has been on.

  • Wind- and water-repellent structure: When the fibres in heavy canvas get damp, they swell slightly. That closes the tiny gaps in the weave and makes the fabric naturally resistant to wind and light showers.

How explorers avoided food waste on a voyage around the world

Food waste – a new word that entered our language in 2014. Since then it has become an everyday word. A Russian woman wondered why we threw out a lot of good food. The only thing wrong with the carrots, the yoghurt, the flour and the grains was that they had passed their sell-by date. […]
