The chair cushions are sewn in 2 colours:

Natural sealskin – ringed seal. Typically a dark grey skin with light ring-shaped markings in different sizes (sold out at the moment)
Natural sealskin – harp seal skin. Typically dark spots in different sizes spread over a greyish background.
Black sealskin

Good to know about black sealskin:

There are no black, red, green or blue seals in the sea around Greenland.

By nature they are greyish with beautiful dark markings.

But in Greenland we love colours, and that is why we have found out how to dye sealskin in many beautiful colours.

Black is the most classic and elegant colour, which many people in Europe have also fallen for.

Narrowest top: approx. 24 cm.

The chair cushions are round with a straight edge that you can turn either towards the backrest or towards the front edge of the seat, depending on how your chair seat is designed.

Care of sealskin

Daily use and care:

Let the skin breathe: Sealskin benefits from fresh air. You do not need to pack it away if you do not use your sealskin product every day.
When the skin gets crumpled: If your sealskin product has become a little flat or crumpled, you can make the hairs stand up nicely again by holding it over the steam from a pot of boiling water. (mind your fingers while steaming the skin)
Brush with the hair: You can gently brush the skin with a soft brush. Always remember to brush with the direction of the hair (from root to tip).

Water and stains – When accidents happen:

Wet sealskin: Caught in a rain shower? Don’t worry! Shake off the excess water and let the skin dry naturally at room temperature.
Minor stains: Gently wipe with a firmly wrung-out, soft cloth with lukewarm water. Always wipe with in the direction of the hair growth.

What you should avoid

No direct heat: Do not place sealskin on a radiator, close to a wood-burning stove or under a hairdryer. Direct heat dries out the leather back so it becomes stiff and brittle.
Avoid chemicals and soap: Never use stain remover, chemicals or household soap on the skin.
No airtight plastic: Do not store your sealskin in airtight plastic bags. Instead choose a cloth bag or put it in a dark place, so the skin can breathe.

History, the Arctic & Sustainability

By-catch from the hunters: Sealskin is a 100% natural by-product from the kitchen. Everything on a seal is used: the meat is eaten, the skin is used for clothes and shoes, and the claws for jewellery. The rest goes to the dogs.

Sealskin comes from Greenlandic hunter families, where the meat is an important local food source, and where the proud tradition is that the whole animal is used.
Recognised sustainability: Both the EU and Greenpeace recognise Greenlandic seal hunting as completely sustainable. The Greenlandic hunters are skilled people who hunt from small boats out on the open sea.
Climate-friendly by nature: Seals live freely in the clean Arctic sea. The material requires neither feed production, farmland nor artificial water supply, which makes it one of the world’s most nature-friendly raw materials.
Shaped by nature’s own fingerprint: No two seals have the same pattern or play of colour in their fur. Nature’s variations mean you have a product that is absolutely one of a kind – there is not another like it in the whole world.

Properties & Practical eye-openers

Water-repellent by nature: Made to withstand ice-cold seawater, sealskin has a fantastic surface where snow, sleet and water simply bead off instead of soaking through.
Generations-long durability: The leather under the fur is incredibly hard-wearing. If you take care of it and let it dry at room temperature (never on the radiator!), a sealskin product can easily be passed on to the next generation.
Adapts to you: The leather base is incredibly supple. Whether it is mittens or footwear, the skin quickly moulds itself to your hands or feet for the perfect, personal fit.
Love of easy care: Sealskin is surprisingly easy to keep. If it gets wet, simply let it dry at room temperature and brush it gently through with in the direction of the hair – and the fur gleams again.
