Description
House shoes in natural sealskin (ringed seal)
Warm feet without so many frills.
Do you also hate freezing your toes?
Then you should try a Greenlandic house shoe in sealskin.
It is soft, warm and hugs your foot in a lovely comfortable way while at the same time being beautiful to look at
– and you can wear them with a clear conscience
Sealskin is a material that comes from sustainable hunting.
A skilled hunter goes out to sea because he has to provide food for his family. Instead of letting the skin rot away in nature, he sells it to Great Greenland, which processes the skin so that it can be used for clothes, shoes and bags.
For generations Greenlandic women have made house shoes of sealskin for their families.
Around Greenland there are small sewing workshops that sew the traditional house shoes.
Right now you are only 48 hours and 3 clicks away from being able to pamper your cold feet with a pair like this.
But be careful,
because they might get snatched by your mother, your daughter, your girlfriend or your partner/husband, simply because the feet feel so good in them and they look so good.

The ringed seal is dark at the base with light ring-shaped markings in different sizes spread over the skin.

Sizes and Measurements
Size & Measurements (adults)
It is important to us that you get exactly the right size the first time. Our house shoes are as a starting point normal in size – so choose the size you normally use in shoes.
3 good things to remember when you choose:
-
Sealskin stretches: Sealskin is a soft natural material that quickly moulds to your foot. If the house shoe feels a little tight at first, it will stretch and adapt perfectly.
-
Are you between two sizes? Then we recommend that you choose the smaller size, as the skin stretches with use.
-
Handmade uniqueness: As all our products are 100% handmade, small millimetre deviations in the measurements may occur.

Care of sealskin
Daily use and care:
-
Let the skin breathe: Sealskin benefits from fresh air. You do not need to pack it away if you do not use your sealskin product every day.
-
When the skin gets crumpled: If your sealskin product has become a little flat or crumpled, you can make the hairs stand up nicely again by holding it over the steam from a pot of boiling water. (mind your fingers while steaming the skin)
-
Brush with the hair: You can gently brush the skin with a soft brush. Always remember to brush with the direction of the hair (from root to tip).
Water and stains – When accidents happen:
-
Wet sealskin: Caught in a rain shower? Don’t worry! Shake off the excess water and let the skin dry naturally at room temperature.
-
Minor stains: Gently wipe with a firmly wrung-out, soft cloth with lukewarm water. Always wipe with in the direction of the hair growth.
What you should avoid
-
No direct heat: Do not place sealskin on a radiator, close to a wood-burning stove or under a hairdryer. Direct heat dries out the leather back so it becomes stiff and brittle.
-
Avoid chemicals and soap: Never use stain remover, chemicals or household soap on the skin.
-
No airtight plastic: Do not store your sealskin in airtight plastic bags. Instead choose a cloth bag or put it in a dark place, so the skin can breathe.

Did you know this about sealskin?
We have collected some facts and secrets about sealskin that tell its fantastic story.
History, the Arctic & Sustainability
-
By-catch from the hunters: Sealskin is a 100% natural by-product of the kitchen. It comes from Greenlandic hunter families, where the meat is an important local food source, and where the proud tradition is that the whole animal is used.
-
Recognised sustainability: Both the EU and Greenpeace recognise Greenlandic seal hunting as fully sustainable. The hunt takes place in deep respect for the balance of nature and biodiversity, so the stock remains healthy and strong for future generations.
-
Climate-friendly by nature: Seals live freely in the clean Arctic sea. The material requires neither feed production, farmland nor artificial water supply, which makes it one of the world’s most nature-friendly raw materials.
-
Shaped by nature’s own fingerprint: No two seals have the same pattern or play of colour in their fur. Nature’s variations mean you have a product that is absolutely one of a kind – there is not another like it in the whole world.
Properties & Practical eye-openers
-
Water-repellent by nature: Made to withstand ice-cold seawater, sealskin has a fantastic surface where snow, sleet and water simply bead off instead of soaking through.
-
Generations-long durability: The leather under the fur is incredibly hard-wearing. If you take care of it and let it dry at room temperature (never on the radiator!), a sealskin product can easily be passed on to the next generation.
-
Adapts to you: The leather base is incredibly supple. Whether it is mittens or footwear, the skin quickly moulds itself to your hands or feet for the perfect, personal fit.
-
Love of easy care: Sealskin is surprisingly easy to keep. If it gets wet, simply let it dry at room temperature and brush it gently through with in the direction of the hair – and the fur gleams again.
