Description

Slippers in sealskin with a wool felt sole and checked lining.

May we present the Norwegian edition of our classic Greenlandic slippers in sealskin.

It is a beautiful combination of Greenlandic and Sami traditions.

A beautiful, durable slipper with genuine royal comfort.

The slipper in sealskin with a wool felt sole is almost indispensable in autumn or winter, when it is cold outside and your toes are freezing.

Besides, it isn’t so bad getting out of bed in the morning either, when you know that a pair of soft, cosy slippers in sealskin are waiting next to your bed – just ready for your feet to slip into.

The Norwegian slipper in sealskin is a beautiful mix of Greenlandic and Norwegian traditions.

The slipper is decorated with a fine edging band with red and green embroidery on a black background (see photos)

Practical information about the Norwegian slipper in Greenlandic sealskin:

Sizes:

The slipper is available in sizes 37 – 42.

(NB: Sizes 39 & 42 are already sold out this winter)

Colour:

Natural glossy sealskin with a fine, white and soft trim of lambskin.

The slipper is sewn in harp sealskin (the sealskin with dark spots on a silver-grey background)

The sealskin comes from Greenland, but the model is Norwegian, with inspiration from the Sami people’s shoes.

Dimensions:

Outer measurements of the slipper in sealskin with wool felt sole (size 39)

  • Length: 26 cm
  • Width: 9 cm
  • Height: 6 cm

Please note:  The measurements are taken on the outside of the house shoe.

Lining:

Inside, the slipper is lined with a red and green checked wool lining.

Sole:

The Norwegian slipper has 2 soles, an inner and an outer sole.

Inside, the slipper has a thick, white wool felt sole.

On the outside, the slipper’s sole is made of thick, soft suede, so you don’t slip when you walk around with it indoors.

The fit:

The fit is good. The slipper moulds to your feet.

The sole is slightly stiffer than in our Greenlandic sealskin slipper.

That means the slipper is a bit more “shoe-like” to put on.

Most people have no problems getting into the slipper or keeping it on.

It sits securely around the ankle in a soft and comfortable way.

Which size should you choose?

You should choose the size you usually use in shoes.

and you should be aware that:

Sealskin is soft and can mould to the foot.

So if you feel the house shoe fits tightly on the foot, you should be aware that it can stretch so that it fits your foot exactly.

Suggestion for your wish list:

You can add the slippers to your wish list.

Tell your friends and family what you want, and that they can get gift cards at Sika-mut, so you can choose what you want yourself.

Thank you for your interest.

Sizes and Measurements

Size & Measurements (adults)

It is important to us that you get exactly the right size the first time. Our house shoes are as a starting point normal in size – so choose the size you normally use in shoes.

3 good things to remember when you choose:

  • Sealskin stretches: Sealskin is a soft natural material that quickly moulds to your foot. If the house shoe feels a little tight at first, it will stretch and adapt perfectly.

  • Are you between two sizes? Then we recommend that you choose the smaller size, as the skin stretches with use.

  • Handmade uniqueness: As all our products are 100% handmade, small millimetre deviations in the measurements may occur.

Care of sealskin

Daily use and care:

  • Let the skin breathe: Sealskin benefits from fresh air. You do not need to pack it away if you do not use your sealskin product every day.

  • When the skin gets crumpled: If your sealskin product has become a little flat or crumpled, you can make the hairs stand up nicely again by holding it over the steam from a pot of boiling water. (mind your fingers while steaming the skin)

  • Brush with the hair: You can gently brush the skin with a soft brush. Always remember to brush with the direction of the hair (from root to tip).

Water and stains – When accidents happen:

  • Wet sealskin: Caught in a rain shower? Don’t worry! Shake off the excess water and let the skin dry naturally at room temperature.

  • Minor stains: Gently wipe with a firmly wrung-out, soft cloth with lukewarm water. Always wipe with in the direction of the hair growth.

What you should avoid

  • No direct heat: Do not place sealskin on a radiator, close to a wood-burning stove or under a hairdryer. Direct heat dries out the leather back so it becomes stiff and brittle.

  • Avoid chemicals and soap: Never use stain remover, chemicals or household soap on the skin.

  • No airtight plastic: Do not store your sealskin in airtight plastic bags. Instead choose a cloth bag or put it in a dark place, so the skin can breathe.

Bonus info about sealskin - that you didn’t know you needed to know.

Did you know this about sealskin?

We have collected some facts and secrets about sealskin that tell its fantastic story.

History, the Arctic & Sustainability

  • By-catch from the hunters: Sealskin is a 100% natural by-product of the kitchen. It comes from Greenlandic hunter families, where the meat is an important local food source, and where the proud tradition is that the whole animal is used.

  • Recognised sustainability: Both the EU and Greenpeace recognise Greenlandic seal hunting as fully sustainable. The hunt takes place in deep respect for the balance of nature and biodiversity, so the stock remains healthy and strong for future generations.

  • Climate-friendly by nature: Seals live freely in the clean Arctic sea. The material requires neither feed production, farmland nor artificial water supply, which makes it one of the world’s most nature-friendly raw materials.

  • Shaped by nature’s own fingerprint: No two seals have the same pattern or play of colour in their fur. Nature’s variations mean you have a product that is absolutely one of a kind – there is not another like it in the whole world.

Properties & Practical eye-openers

  • Water-repellent by nature: Made to withstand ice-cold seawater, sealskin has a fantastic surface where snow, sleet and water simply bead off instead of soaking through.

  • Generations-long durability: The leather under the fur is incredibly hard-wearing. If you take care of it and let it dry at room temperature (never on the radiator!), a sealskin product can easily be passed on to the next generation.

  • Adapts to you: The leather base is incredibly supple. Whether it is mittens or footwear, the skin quickly moulds itself to your hands or feet for the perfect, personal fit.

  • Love of easy care: Sealskin is surprisingly easy to keep. If it gets wet, simply let it dry at room temperature and brush it gently through with in the direction of the hair – and the fur gleams again.
